NEW DELHI: An IndiGo flight, 6E 2142, winging its way atom Delhi to Srinagar on Wednesday evening encountered turbulence due to weather. The Airbus A321 (VT-IMD) had taken off from Delhi at 5pm.
About 45 minutes into the journey, it ran into bad weather and pilots reported the emergency to Srinagar ATC. The plane landed there safely at 6.46 pm, according to flight tracking sites. It is learnt that everyone on board the aircraft is safe. The plane, which has suffered nose (radome) damage during the hailstorm, has been grounded at Srinagar. The crew is being widely applauded for handling the situation well and ensuring everyone’s safety.
“I was in the plane and am heading back home from Srinagar. It was a near death experience. The nose of the plane is damaged...There was panic and people were screaming. Everyone was scared,” said Owais Maqbool on X.
In a statement, the airline said: “IndiGo flight 6E 2142 operating from Delhi to Srinagar encountered sudden hailstorm en route. The flight and cabin crew followed established protocol and the aircraft landed safely in Srinagar. The airport team attended to the customers after arrival of aircraft prioritising their wellbeing and comfort. The aircraft will be released post necessary inspection and maintenance.”
