NEW DELHI: Virat Kohli continues to redefine consistency and class in the Indian Premier League , becoming the first player in tournament history to score 500 or more runs in eight different seasons.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru ( RCB ) star crossed the milestone with a scintillating 62 off 33 balls against Chennai Super Kings ( CSK ) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, reclaiming the Orange Cap in the process.

With 505 runs from 11 innings at an average of 63.13 and a strike rate of 143.46, Kohli leads the run-scoring charts in IPL 2025 .

Who's that IPL player?

The knock against CSK marked his seventh half-century of the season, underlining his exceptional form. Kohli's performance helped RCB edge out CSK by two runs in a high-scoring thriller, as the hosts successfully defended 213, restricting CSK to 211/5. The win also marked RCB’s first-ever league double over their southern rivals, following their historic 50-run win in Chennai.

Previously tied with David Warner on seven 500-plus seasons, Kohli now stands alone at the top.

Kohli began this streak in 2011 with 557 runs and followed up with consistent tallies in 2013 (634), 2015 (505), and the historic 2016 season where he amassed a record-breaking 973 runs, including four centuries. He repeated the feat in 2018, and then in consecutive seasons — 2023 (639 runs) and 2024 (741 runs) — before extending it again this year.

KL Rahul (six times) and Shikhar Dhawan (five times) are next on the all-time list of most 500-run IPL seasons, but Kohli’s unmatched longevity and hunger for runs continue to set him apart.
