Jamshedpur: Two men drowned in Narga Dam under MGM police station limits in East Singhbhum district on Sunday evening. However, their bodies were fished out on Monday, the police said.
The deceased were identified as Gaurav Singh (21) and Abhishek Kumar (19). Gaurav was a resident of Uttar Pradesh while Abhishek hailed from Haryana. They had gone for a swim in the dam, located 10 kilometres outside the city, for fun, the police said.
Eyewitnesses informed the police that Gaurav began drowning minutes after venturing into the dam. He called his friends for help. Abhisek tried to rescue him but also drowned. Locals informed the police immediately, but rescue operations could not be carried out due to the darkness.
"The deceased used to build structures which are used for goat rearing. They were living in Govindpur for few months now and were currently building shelter for goats in Machabera area," Rambabu Mandal, officer in-charge of MGM police station, said.
