Mysuru: In a proactive move to enhance emergency preparedness, the Mysuru district administration constituted 12 specialised service teams comprising officials from all key departments. This initiative, implemented under the directive of the Union ministry of home affairs, aimed at ensuring the efficient execution of civil defence responsibilities during emergencies, said additional deputy commissioner P Shivaraju.

Addressing a preparatory meeting on Wednesday, Shivaraju discussed disaster preparedness measures with senior officers from various departments. The meeting focused on strengthening coordination and readiness to safeguard the public during natural or man-made crisis. While Mysuru currently faces no immediate security threats, Shivaraju emphasised the importance of vigilance, particularly as the city is an internationally recognised tourist destination. "Preparedness and inter-departmental coordination are crucial to ensuring public safety and maintaining public confidence," he said.

Senior officials part of team

To streamline civil defence efforts, the district formed 12 service teams with dedicated roles including communication and alert services, fire and rescue services, welfare and health services, transport and supply coordination, civil defence and law enforcement, and security for critical infrastructure.

Each team includes senior officials like the police commissioner, superintendent of police, zilla panchayat CEO, assistant commissioners, tahsildars, district health and welfare officer, regional fire officer, as well as representatives from the airport, railways, and All India Radio. Officers from other relevant departments are also integrated into the teams to ensure comprehensive coverage.

Shivaraju called for unified efforts from both Union and state agencies to safeguard lives and property during emergencies. He stressed that all teams must remain operational around the clock and be ready to respond at a moment's notice. To support continuous monitoring and coordination, the district administration set up a 24/7 control room tasked with issuing timely directives and updates to all departments. All officials have been instructed to adhere strictly to these guidelines to ensure effective emergency response.
