Indore: Indore crime branch on Monday arrested a person allegedly involved in operating a betting racket centred around Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches. The arrest followed a raid conducted based on information regarding the illegal activity.
"During the operation, the crime branch team seized significant evidence, including 8 mobile phones, a laptop, an LED television, a pen drive, and registers containing detailed accounts of betting transactions," Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said.
The accused was running the online cricket betting operation using a laptop and mobile phones via a website from a residence located in Chhota Bangarda's Nariman City Colony. A case was registered against the accused, identified as Abhay Sharma (27), under relevant sections of the Gambling Act.
"The accused, educated up to Class 10, confessed to operating the online betting ring via a website from his relative's residence in Nariman City for the past two years," the senior official said.
During the interrogation, the accused admitted to facilitating online betting on IPL cricket matches through a website on his laptop and mobile phones. The police team seized the aforementioned items from his possession. "A case under Crime Number 83/25, Section 3/4 of the Gambling Act, was registered against the accused at the Crime Branch police station. Further probe is on," he said.
