Margao: Residents across Salcete are grappling with persistent disruptions in water supply, affecting daily life and causing significant hardship.
At Fatorda, Raia, and Verna, households recently faced complete water outages due to leakages in branch pipelines, which public works department (PWD) officials eventually identified and repaired.
Road excavation for sewerage installation at Colva and Curtorim damaged existing water infrastructure earlier this week. A PWD representative said, “Locating and repairing leaks require time, though we aim to limit disruptions to specific areas for minimal periods.”
Betalbatim village has been especially affected, with taps running dry for two consecutive weeks. Deputy sarpanch Ilma Dias has strongly criticised the PWD for its inadequate response. However, sarpanch Minu Antonio Fernandes said the issue stems from insufficient water pressure rather than shortage. “The problem is largely on account of low water pressure in certain areas, which results in water being unable to reach the upper floors,” he said.

Two talukas to be affected amid repairs
Margao: Mormugao taluka and parts of Salcete taluka will face restricted water supply on Thursday due to a pipeline leakage in Verna.
The office of the executive engineer, works division IV, department of drinking water, Fatorda, announced that repairs on the 1,200mm diameter pipeline of the Selaulim water supply project will affect the entire Mormugao taluka, including the Cortalim, Dabolim, Vasco, and Mormugao constituencies.
Parts of the Salcete taluka, comprising Benaulim, Nuvem, and Curtorim constituencies, along with portions of St Andre constituency, will also experience water restrictions owing to the repair work on the vital pipeline. TNN
