Margao: Two weeks after the violent assault on police personnel in Shivnagar, Xeldem, police continue their manhunt for the prime accused, Joyson Fernandes of Cacora. He remains at large despite intensive search operations across the state.

Quepem police have arrested four of the seven identified suspects involved in the May 1 attack, but Fernandes, described by police sources as the “mastermind”, has evaded capture so far.

Police sources said multiple teams have been formed to track down Fernandes and the remaining suspects.

“We are following several leads. It’s only a matter of time before we apprehend all the accused,” a police officer said.

Fernandes and his accomplices first attacked two civilians, Bryan Costa and Felix Fernandes.

When ASI Pundalik Gaonkar and constable Rohan Narvekar reached the scene, the group allegedly assaulted the cops before fleeing in their vehicles.

The four arrested suspects were charged with various offences, including assault on public servants, unlawful assembly, and causing hurt. The failure of police in nabbing the prime accused has invited criticism from the public, as the man was reportedly spotted by many.

State Congress president Amit Patkar condemned the attacks, particularly on police personnel. In a social media post, Patkar criticised the law-and-order situation under BJP govt, questioning how people could trust police when such assaults go unchecked.
