Pune: Cybercrooks duped a 43-year-old man from Lohegaon of Rs 25.95 lakh in an online share trading fraud between March 28 and April 15.
The victim initially filed a complaint application with the city cybercrime police. After verification, an FIR related to cheating was registered with the airport police on Tuesday.
A police officer said the victim, an employee in a private firm, received a link on a social media site from cybercrooks. The link was a lure to educate people on share trading. The victim fell into the trap and clicked on the link. He came into the contact of the cybercrook. Later, the crooks convinced him to download an application and he followed their instructions.
The officer said the crooks then asked the victim to make smaller investments of varying amounts and discussed the high profits in online trading of shares. They also lured him to transfer larger amounts into their bank accounts.
The victim realised that he was tricked after he tried to withdraw interest on investments in share trading, but in vain. The crooks later stopped communicating with the victim, the officer added.
