Temperatures have suddenly dropped, and Brits who were once basking in the summer sun are now seeking solace in the warmth of their homes. But as energy prices continue to rise, blasting the heating this early in the year can take a toll on the finances.
Thankfully, experts have recommended a simple hack to make rooms "twice as warm" when using a radiator. The best part is it costs as little as £1.50, and more likely than not, it's using something you already have at home.

In a TikTok video shared by Which?, they explained how using aluminium foil behind radiators can help a room retain heat, resulting in less energy use.
The technique is based on placing reflective foil on the wall behind radiators, which helps to redirect heat back into the room instead of allowing it to escape through external walls.
Radiator reflector foil can be purchased for about £8, but for those on a budget, kitchen foil does the trick at just £1.50.
Which? said: "It's padded and usually has an adhesive backing so it's really easy to install."
To implement the hack, you simply need to measure the distance between the brackets on their radiators and cut the foil to size.
If the foil doesn't have an adhesive backing, double-sided sticky tape can be used to secure it in place behind the radiator.
One TikTok user raved about the effectiveness of this hack.
They said: "My family has been doing this for ages; it heats up a room twice as fast and it STAYS hot."
This simple method has gained traction as households seek to combat rising energy costs while keeping warm during the colder months.
Experts recommend this approach particularly for external walls, where heat loss is most significant.
With energy prices on the rise, such DIY solutions could provide significant savings while ensuring comfort in the home.
