Prince William has revealed a hilarious comment that a tourist once made about Windsor Castle. The 43-year-old appeared on the most recent episode of Levy's Apple TV+ series, The Reluctant Traveler, where he recalled a comment from a tourist that still makes the Royal Family laugh today.
Speaking to Eugene, William said: "The tour guides get to hear some funny stories", adding "We heard back one time, that - I won't name the nationality of the tourist, but - they're looking around the castle going, 'Wow this place is incredible, but why did they have to build the castle so close to Heathrow airport?'"
Revealing how funny the family found the comment, William added that the comment has "gone down as the sort of number one quote of a tourist going around Windsor Castle".
Having also noted during the episode that his eldest son Prince George is "better than [him]" at history, he added: "I know my history is bad, but that's another level."
The original Windsor Castle was built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror, which the lavish state apartments added in during the early 19th century.
Heathrow Airport was first opened as a small airfield in 1930, before later becoming London's primary airport in the years that followed World War II. The airport, which is also London's largest airport, is located around 8.7 miles from Windsor Castle.
Showing Eugene around St. George's Hall, which he calls "one of my favorite parts" of the castle, William shared a core memory he shared in his younger days with his cousins.
He said: "My cousins and I, and the family, would chase each other up and down here and do silly games.
"I remember these carpets weren't here, and there were a couple of spots where you used to have to watch out because you'd get massive splinters... It was a really dark, wooden, oak floor. So, when you went running off, you'd end up coming away and you'd have an enormous splinter."
He later shared that he now recreates the memory with his own children - Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and seven-year-old Prince Louis.
