The UK has been experiencing warm weather with temperatures expected to hit 25C today. However, the sunshine will be interrupted in three UK regions as the forecasts "vigorous" on Monday.
The unsettled conditions are expected to be accompanied by lightning and hail, with the forecaster predicting that Monday, May 12, will see the largest risk of impacts from the thunderstorms. The turn of events comes just as Brits have been making the most out of the balmy weather and sunshine that has been widespread across the UK. Now, locals in particular parts of the country will miss out.
The noted that those in the West Country, South Wales and the West Midlands will have to say goodbye to the sunny conditions, as a result of a movement of low pressure. The stormy conditions started from Saturday night, where a movement "northwards across the southwest of the UK" brought an increased risk of rain, showers, and thunderstorms.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Dan Harris said: "As we continue through Sunday and into Monday, this will extend to other western parts of Great Britian and into Northern Ireland too. On Monday itself, we could see some particulary vigorous thunderstroms developing, most likely in Wales and parts of southern England."
In contrast, the remaining UK regions are set for "dry, fine and increasingly warm conditions". For those impacted by the thunderstorms, however, the forecaster says there will be heavy rainfall with a risk of flooding.
He added: "Should these thunderstorms develop, especially on Monday, there is potential for 25-35mm of rain to fall in an hour or so which may lead to some localised surface water flooding. Hail, lightening, and isolated strong wind gusts would be additional hazards."
Brits are urged to check the Met Office forecast for any changes that could take place as well as the potential for any severe weather warning that could be issued.
On Tuesday, the showers are expected to be cleared away with much of the UK back and by Wednesday the majority of nation will be back to bright sunny days that should remain throughtout the week.
