A journalist who attended Black Sabbath's last ever concert made a devastating admission about Ozzy Osbourne as he took to the stage. Diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2019 and suffering chronic pain after several spinal surgeries resulting from an ATV accident in 2003, Ozzy sat in a throne as he performed a slew of hits surrounded by his bandmates.
The 76-year-old rocker died yesterday (July 22) surrounded by family. But for Mirror reporter Jamie Roberts, the concert on July 5 felt like a living wake. He admitted that each song seemed to be "sapping [Ozzy's] energy" and he had water and sprays for his throat close to hand.
Roberts wrote: "That's how you go out. Under the fireworks (with a cake to match). The curtain has been called on Ozzy's career, but he didn't fade away under a shadow of ill health. He gave everyone one last day to remember in what had a strange sensation of a funeral and wake celebration for a loved one who is still with us."
He added that it felt like "the perfect goodbye" weeks before Ozzy's tragic death.
Perhaps as another nod to Ozzy's declining health, his daughter Kelly Osbourne got engaged to her fiancé Sid Wilson in front of her dad backstage, with Sid getting down on one knee right beside Ozzy.
Sid told her: "Kelly, you know I love you more than anything in the world!" as Ozzy joked: "F*** off, you are not marrying my daughter!"
Thankfully Kelly said yes, leaving her mum Sharon and dad Ozzy tearful over the sweet moment.
Ozzy died in the UK "surrounded by love", with his family releasing a statement which read: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love."
