Horror college 'attack' as students 'screaming and calling their mums crying'

Police have arrested two boys after a student was injured in an alleged assault at a college in Berkshire, Thames Valley Police said. Armed police were dispatched to Reading College on King's Road in Reading on Thursday afternoon (November 6) following an incident.

The public was told to avoid the area as officers worked to "resolve the situation". The college was put into a lockdown as police responded. Panicked students were reportedly crying and calling their mothers. In an update on the day of the incident, police had said: "We are aware of an assault with injury in Kings Road, Reading. A boy has sustained injuries and is receiving medical treatment.

"The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is being treated in the hospital," they added.

Police have since said the victim, who is in his late teens, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has been discharged.

Earlier today, police said that two people had been arrested in connection with the incident.

A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article on school/further education premises.

A 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent, Thames Valley Police said.

Both remain in custody, and police said they're not looking to make any further arrests at present.

Police previously said that contrary to media reports, the incident had "not been categorised as a major incident by the force".

Students "thought [a siren] was a test until we started hearing people screaming," one person studying at the college told BBC News on Thursday. "That is when we started getting scared. People were calling their mums, crying in lessons."

It confirmed that the college would be opening as normal today (Friday, November 7).
