A shocking video from Ruppur Primary School in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, has gone viral showing a teacher, Manmohan Singh, arriving intoxicated to teach children while wearing shorts. Reportedly posted at Wadrafnagar block’s school, he was seen sitting with his feet on books and slurring his speech during class. When questioned, Manmohan claimed that he was medically advised to consume 100 to 200 grams of alcohol daily as part of his treatment for a fractured leg, saying it is the only way he can walk.
Villagers from Ruppur say this is not the first time the teacher appeared drunk at school; previous complaints have been made against him. Although he received warnings and notices twice, no substantial action was taken earlier.
Following the viral video, Wadrafnagar’s Block Education Officer (BEO) Shyam Kishore Jaiswal issued a final warning and submitted an investigation report to the District Education Officer (DEO) and the district collector, recommending the teacher’s suspension.
This incident raises serious concerns about the quality of education and professionalism at the school, as well as the effectiveness of prior disciplinary measures taken against the teacher. The authorities’ response is awaited to ensure accountability and restore trust in the institution.
