Destination X's Saskia admits rival Nick stopped her quitting show early in unaired scene

Destination X finalist Saskia may be among the final three who are hoping to win the BBC One show in tonight's final, but she almost quit several episodes back. The 25-year-old marketing executive has revealed that she nearly walked away from the show during the Austria episode – but it was actually her rival Nick who stopped her from leaving.

The pair butted heads throughout their time on Destination X together until Nick was eliminated in the seventh episode of the show. Now, just Saskia, Josh and Judith are left – with the trio racing to find the very last destination and win the £100,000 jackpot prize.

When asked whether she had been in touch with Nick since their time on the show, Saskia told the Mirror in an exclusive chat: "I speak to Nick here and there. I think we're very different but we're also quite the same.

"I think that's why we butted heads a lot. What I did respect from Nick is that he did play the game and he played the game for me that made it a bit more exciting. And I did see him as the biggest competition.

"So in that sense, you know, I respect him so much as a person. His values are amazing. His goals are great. And he is actually a lovely person so there's actually no feud there, unfortunately for everyone who probably thought there was."

She added that Nick actually kept her in the competition during one particularly difficult night. "Honestly, the night in the horse stable in Austria, if it wasn't for Nick, I probably would have left the show at that point so that's something that people don't really know.

"He sat me through it the whole night. I remember there being spiders above my head and it being really cold. He just made me feel so comfortable and made the experience a lot funnier and a lot more manageable.

"It had been a really long day and I just didn't feel the best. I just felt tired but he's been running marathons across the world so he was used to all of this.

"I remember he actually tucked me into my sleeping bag and was like, 'Don't worry, it'll be ok. The spiders aren't real. They're just props.' Stuff like that to make me laugh.

"He honestly really helped me through that night so I'm forever grateful for it."

Tonight's finale will see Rob Brydon crown one finalist as Destination X's very first champion - with Saskia, Josh and Judith competing for the life-changing prize.

Destination X airs tonight at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
