The Big Snub: Why Is IPL Ignoring Manish Pandey's Legacy While Honoring Dhoni, Rohit & Virat?

Send Push

In the glitz and glory of the IPL's 18th year, legends like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma have rightfully received accolades for their consistent presence and contributions since the tournament’s inception. But amidst all the celebration, one name—just as deserving—has been conspicuously overlooked: Pandey ji, also known as Manish Pandey.

The First Indian to Score a Century in IPL—Still Ignored

Manish Pandey etched his name in IPL history in 2009 by becoming the first Indian to score a century in the league. That knock of 114* for RCB against Deccan Chargers in South Africa was not just a match-winner—it was iconic. Yet, despite being a part of the IPL across all 18 seasons, his contribution seems forgotten by the very league he helped shape.

Currently With KKR in 2025, But No Recognition

This season, Pandey is with Kolkata Knight Riders, picked for ₹75 lakh. But while fans saw heartwarming images of Dhoni, Virat, and Rohit receiving commemorative mementos for their 18-year journey, there was no such moment for Pandey. No spotlight. No tribute. No mention. Why the silence?

18 Years, 7 Teams, 172 Matches—And Still No Respect?

Pandey has served 7 franchises in the IPL: Mumbai Indians, RCB, Pune Warriors, KKR, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, and Delhi Capitals. He’s played 172 matches and scored nearly 3900 runs—including that historic century. Yet, when it came to recognising endurance and loyalty to the IPL brand, he was left out.

When Achievements Are the Same, Why Isn’t the Respect?

The IPL is known for celebrating its legends, and rightly so. But shouldn’t the recognition be fair? Pandey’s journey mirrors that of the celebrated icons in terms of longevity. He may not be the flashiest name, but he's certainly earned a place in IPL’s history books.

So the question remains: Why the stepmotherly treatment for Manish Pandey? If the tournament is truly celebrating 18 years of legacy, then Pandey’s name deserves to be in that spotlight too.
