Noida: A shocking incident unfolded at the residence of Pakistani national Seema Haider in Rabupura, Greater Noida, after a young man from Gujarat allegedly barged into her home and assaulted her late Saturday (May 3) evening, according to reports.
The accused, identified as Tejas Jhani from Surendranagar district, Gujarat, reportedly attempted to strangle Haider before slapping her multiple times. The intrusion and subsequent attack have raised questions about the security arrangements in place for Haider, who has been under scrutiny since entering India illegally to be with her Indian partner, Sachin Meena.
How Did the Incident Take Place?
According to the TV9 report, police revealed that Jhani had travelled to Delhi by train and then used various modes of transport to reach Rabupura. Upon arriving at Haider's residence, he repeatedly kicked the closed door. When Haider opened the door to investigate the commotion, Jhani allegedly grabbed her by the throat and attempted to strangle her.
When Haider resisted, the accused reportedly slapped her three to four times. The commotion alerted Haider's family members and neighbours, who rushed to her aid. They apprehended Jhani, physically assaulted him, and subsequently informed the local police.
Accused Claims 'Black Magic' and Mental Instability
Police arrived at the scene and took Jhani into custody. ACP Sarthak Sengar stated that the accused is currently being interrogated. Preliminary investigations suggest that Jhani may be mentally unstable. "The interrogation so far has revealed that the accused himself is mentally deranged," ACP Sengar said, as per the TV9 report.
Authorities have contacted Jhani's family regarding his arrest. Interestingly, during the interrogation, Jhani reportedly told the police that Haider and Sachin had performed "black magic" on him, seemingly providing a bizarre motive for the attack. This claim is being investigated along with his mental state.
The incident has triggered concerns about the adequacy of security provided to Haider, especially amid the deportation of Pakistani nationals from India, in response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. Police have stated that a thorough investigation into the matter is currently underway, including an examination of the accused's mobile phone call details.
