Sawan 2025: Should we offer packaged milk on Shivling or not? What do the scriptures say about this?

The month of Sawan is considered the best for the worship of Lord Shiva. In Sawan, you can please Bholenath by offering water, milk, Belpatra, and Dhatura on the Shivling. It is clearly stated in the scriptures that all the substances offered on the Shivling should be pure and satvik. Many people live in markets, and they only have packaged milk. In such a situation, they offer only packaged milk on the Shivling. Should packaged milk be offered on the Shivling?

According to the scriptures, the purity of every item used in worship is very important. This purity is not only physical, but is also associated with satvik qualities. Packet milk often goes through chemical processes, storage and preservatives. In such a situation, it cannot be considered completely satvik and natural. This raises questions about the suitability of that milk in worship. In the month of Saavan, it is considered best to offer fresh, raw, and pure cow milk on the Shivling. Offering packaged milk on the Shivling is not considered right. If cow milk is available in your house, then anoint the Shivling with that milk.

If, for some reason, pure Desi cow milk is not available and only packaged milk is the option, then caution should be taken in that too. First of all, boil the milk and when it cools down, offer it to Lord Shiva. Try to ensure that the milk should not be stale, sour, or adulterated in any way. Emotions are important in religious activities, but discretion and scriptural conduct are also necessary. The purity of the substances offered on the Shivling is the basis of the fruitfulness of worship. By being careful, the worship will also be fruitful, and the respect for religious traditions will also remain.
