Gujarat Titans have been knocked out of the tournament after losing by 20 runs in the IPL Eliminator against Mumbai Indians. Disappointed with the defeat, captain Shubman Gill could not hide his pain. He also explained the reason for the defeat and said that it is not easy to win after dropping three catches in the powerplay. Gujarat dropped two out of three catches of Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma took advantage of this and scored 81 runs in 50 balls.

Mumbai Indians scored 228 runs for 5 wickets in the Eliminator match based on the innings of Rohit Sharma and Johnny Bairstow (47 in 22 balls). In response, despite Sai Sudarshan's (80) fifty, Gujarat Titans could only score 208 runs for 6 wickets and were knocked out of the tournament. After the defeat, India's new Test captain Shubman Gill said, 'The last three overs did not go in our favor but it was a good match. We made some mistakes. It is not easy to win after dropping three catches, especially in the powerplay.'
Mendis and Coetzee dropped catches.
Gujarat's fielding was very poor and they dropped three important catches. Two of these were of Rohit Sharma and one of Suryakumar Yadav (33 runs in 20 balls). Rohit got two lives in the powerplay. First Gerald Coetzee dropped his catch near the boundary. Then wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis dropped a catch behind the wicket on Mohammad Siraj's ball.
Shubman Gill said, 'While chasing the target, our message was clear play according to your own will. This is what was told to Sai Sudarshan and Washington Sundar. Sai played very well.' The captain of Gujarat Titans admitted that Mumbai scored more runs than he expected. He said- 210 would have been a good score on this pitch…

Luck favored us and we had to take advantage of it.
'Player of the Match' Rohit Sharma said that he wanted to take full advantage of the lifelines he got in his innings. He said, 'I have scored only four half-centuries. I wanted to score more. I know the importance of playing the eliminator. This victory has been achieved due to team efforts.' The former captain said, 'When I play, the goal is to try to give my best performance. Today luck favoured me and I knew I had to take full advantage of it. I am happy that I could do this and put the team in a good position..'
