For many Indians, buying a lottery ticket is a small act of hope — a dream of escaping hardship and changing one’s life overnight. For a humble vegetable seller from Rajasthan, that dream recently came true. What began as a borrowed Rs 1,000 and a casual purchase turned into a life-altering moment worth Rs 11 crore, proving that luck can find anyone, anywhere.
Amit Sehra, a 32-year-old vegetable seller from Kotputli town in Rajasthan’s Jaipur district, experienced an extraordinary stroke of luck after winning Rs 11 crore in the Punjab State Lottery’s Diwali Bumper 2025. Sehra, who runs a small vegetable cart, had borrowed Rs 1,000 from a friend during a visit to Moga, Punjab, to purchase two lottery tickets — one for himself and one for his wife.
While his wife’s ticket earned only Rs 1,000, his own ticket, bought in Bathinda for Rs 500, won the top prize. Speaking to ANI, Sehra said he was overwhelmed with joy, thanking the Punjab government and the lottery agency for the life-changing win. He described the moment as divine intervention, calling himself a devotee of Lord Hanuman. “I can’t express my happiness. All my grief has vanished today,” he said, adding that he wished every person’s poverty would end someday.
Plans to Help Others and Build a Future
Despite his sudden fortune, Sehra expressed a deep sense of gratitude and compassion. He revealed that he plans to give Rs 50 lakh each to the two daughters of the friend who had lent him the money to buy the tickets. “I have lost my mother, so I understand the pain of daughters,” he shared. The rest of the amount, he said, will go toward his children’s education and building a home for his family.
Sehra, who struggled to make ends meet selling vegetables, told ANI that he could not even afford to travel to Chandigarh initially to complete the formalities for claiming his prize. “It is God’s blessing that he gave me ‘chhappar phad ke’,” he said emotionally.
Official Confirmation and Public Reaction
Officials from the Punjab State Lottery Department confirmed that Sehra had claimed the Rs 11 crore prize. The process, they explained, requires winners to submit the original ticket along with bank and personal details to the Punjab government office. “No fee is required for claim submission,” an official told News18, adding that only paper tickets are valid since the state does not operate any online lottery schemes.
A video of Sehra’s win has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread praise for his humility. Many users congratulated him and hoped he would manage his newfound wealth wisely, while others expressed concern for his safety and privacy.
