My responsibility is to give befitting reply to those who cast evil eye on India: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday reaffirmed his commitment to national security, stating that as the Defence Minister, it is his duty to stand with the armed forces and deliver a strong response to any threat against India.

He stressed the critical role of the Ministry of Defence in securing India's borders.

“As a defence minister, it is my responsibility to ensure the security of the country's borders along with my soldiers. It is my responsibility to give a befitting reply to those who dare to attack our country," he said.

The leader's speech came in the backdrop of rising tensions between its neighbour after the Pakistan-linked Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people in Jammu and Kashmir.

Both countries have ordered and carried out a series of actions against the other including pulling out some diplomats and shutting down airpsace and ports, while India also suspended the crucial Indus Waters Treaty. Pakistan further reportedly violated ceasefire clauses at the LoC and fired small arms which further escalated tensions between the historically disputing countries.

Speaking at the Sanskriti Jagran Mahotsav in Delhi, the BJP leader drew a contrast between India's physical and spiritual defenders, lauding both the military and the nation's spiritual leaders.

“As a nation, our brave soldiers have always protected the physical form of India, while on the other hand, our sages and wise men have protected the spiritual form of India,” Singh said. “While on one hand, our soldiers fight on the 'Rannbhoomi' (battlefield), on the other hand, our saints fight on the 'Jeevanbhoomi'."

Moreover, noting PM Modi's leadership, the defence Minister said, “ You all know Prime Minister Narendra Modi's work ethic and perseverance. I want to assure you that under PM Narendra Modi's leadership, what you desire will certainly happen.”

He also suggested that the Centre remains committed to both strength and values. Singh further reflected on the deterioration of ethics in contemporary politics.

“The word 'Rajneeti' is made up of 'Raj' and 'Neeti' — governance and ethics. But the irony is that the word 'politics' has lost its meaning today,” he said.

Calling for a return to moral integrity in governance, he added, “I want the blessings of the revered saints... I need your blessings so we can re-establish it in the politics of India. We will become truly 'Viksit Bharat' if we become strong economically as well as culturally and spiritually.”
