Punjab Kings (PBKS) clinched a 37-run win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium on Sunday, May 4. This win propelled them to the second spot in the points table.
After opting to bowl first, LSG struck early to dismiss Priyansh Arya (one off four). Josh Inglis counter-attacked with a 14-ball 30 before falling to a fine catch in the deep. PBKS got to 66/2 at the end of the powerplay. Skipper, Shreyas Iyer (45 off 24), contributed to set the tone. Prabhsimran Singh (91 off 48) was the star performer for PBKS. They ended up posting 236/5, aided by late cameos from Shashank Singh (33* off 15) and Marcus Stoinis (15* off five). Akash Singh (2/30 in four overs) ended up as the standout performer for LSG.
The run-chase was dented early courtesy Arshdeep Singh's double blow in his second over. The visitors were reduced to 38/3 at the end of their powerplay. By the 10th over, they were in all sorts of trouble, having already lost half their side. Ayush Badoni and Ayush Badoni struck together an 81-run stand to provide a tiny amount of hope. However, the two departed for 74 off 40 and 45 off 24. LSG could get to only 199/7. Arshdeep was the star with the ball (3/16 in four overs).
