As September 2025 approaches, millions of banking customers across India are already looking at the holiday calendar to plan their financial tasks in advance. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) schedule, banks will remain closed for a total of 15 days in September 2025. These holidays include both state-specific festival offs and regular weekly holidays such as Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays.
This means banking operations at physical branches will remain affected for nearly half the month, especially in cities where major festivals like Onam, Eid-e-Milad, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, and Durga Puja are widely celebrated. However, customers need not worry about essential services. Digital banking platforms like mobile banking, internet banking, UPI payments, and ATMs will continue to function as usual. Only offline processes such as cheque clearance and certain branch-related tasks may face delays.

Since banks will remain closed on multiple days in September, customers are advised to plan their branch visits and offline banking activities such as cheque deposits, demand drafts, loan-related services, and account updates well in advance. Any such requests made close to the holiday dates might be processed on the next working day.
That said, digital transactions will remain completely unaffected. Customers can continue using UPI apps, mobile wallets, internet banking portals, and debit/credit cards without any disruption. ATMs will also function as usual, though heavy usage around festival days could lead to temporary cash shortages in certain areas.
Why So Many Holidays in September?September 2025 is packed with major religious and cultural celebrations across India. Festivals like Onam in Kerala, Ganesh Chaturthi in Maharashtra, Eid-e-Milad in several states, and Navratri and Durga Puja in northern and eastern India have led to more holidays than usual. Since banking holidays differ from state to state, some regions will see longer closures compared to others.
Bottom LineBanks across India will remain closed for 15 days in September 2025, including festival holidays, second and fourth Saturdays, and Sundays. While this will affect in-branch services, customers can continue using digital modes for most transactions without any interruption. If you have urgent banking work, it is best to finish it before the holiday rush begins.
